Diminishing The Difference (Disadvantaged) Widget
Purpose
Accessed from the Dashboard in Sonar Multi-School, the Diminishing The Difference (Disadvantaged) Widget displays the attainment of Not Disadvantaged and Disadvantaged pupils, along with the gap in performance between the two groups. This provides you with insight into the scale of any performance Gap and how it has changed overtime. Using this knowledge you can see the impact of any interventions, and plan future interventions to close the Gap between those pupils that are and are not Disadvantaged.
Pupil attainment is shown as a percentage of pupils who are categorised as either Not Disadvantaged and Disadvantaged pupils who are achieving either At or Above ARE in Combined (RWM) (Reading, Writing and Mathematics). A second percentage indicator shows how each categories attainment has changed since the previous Assessment Period. In addition to the individual Not Disadvantaged and Disadvantaged headline figures, a further headline shows the Gap between the different categories for the current assessment period along with an indicator of how much it has changed since the previous Assessment Period.
If you want to view the attainment of pupils categorised as both Not Disadvantaged and Disadvantaged pupils and the associated Gap over a longer period of time (including the last two Academic Years), and for individual Subjects (Reading, Writing and Mathematics) as well as the Combined Subjects, you can do this from within the widget's report view.
Information: Calculations are based only on those pupils with assessment data. Pupils without assessment data are not included in calculations.
Information: The Diminishing The Difference (Disadvantaged) Widget is only available for those users who are part of an establishment that comprises multiple schools in Sonar Tracker (for example, a Multi Academy Trust) and have the appropriate permission associated with their User ID to access Sonar Multi-School content.

In the example:
- For the current Assessment Period 75.4% of pupils categorised as Not Disadvantaged are either At or Above ARE for their Summative Assessment in Combined (RWM) (Reading, Writing and Mathematics). Meanwhile, 47.7% of pupils categorised as Disadvantaged are either At or Above ARE. The Disadvantaged Gap between the two is 27.7% (Pupils categorised as Disadvantaged are performing 27.7% better than pupils categorised as Not Disadvantaged).
- The difference between the current Assessment Period and the previous Assessment Period for Not Disadvantaged shows a 0.1% decrease in terms of pupils either At or Above ARE for their Summative Assessment in Combined (RWM) (Reading, Writing and Mathematics). Meanwhile, there has been a 0.9% decrease in the amount ofDisadvantaged pupils either At or Above ARE. An increase in attainment between Assessment Periods is shown in green as a percentage with a green up-arrow to its left. A decrease in attainment between Assessment Periods is shown in red as a percentage with a red up-arrow to its left.
- This makes the Gap between Not Disadvantaged and Disadvantaged 0.8% greater overall than in the previous Assessment Period. When the Gap between the two characteristic groups gets wider, this is displayed in red as a percentage with an up-arrow to its left. When the Gap between the two characteristic groups closes, this is displayed in green as a percentage with a green down-arrow to its left. Red indicates that the gap is widening, whereas green indicates the gap is reducing which shows that each pupil has a fairer chance to succeed.
