In Classroom Monitor, summative scores are generated automatically when teachers record their formative assessments in the markbook.
However, increasingly schools are preferring to record their own summative judgements, which are informed by the markbook, but independent of it.
In Sonar, summative assessment is separated from formative and the data that are used for attainment and progress analysis are summative assessment scores. These scores or judgements are recorded periodically – often termly – by teachers. The summative data is therefore not dependent on having up-to-date class markbooks or based purely on how much of the curriculum has been met – although teachers can use that information to guide their judgement.
