Ahead of the usual May report writing period, we would like to share several parent report templates, which will be available for you to use in Sonar Tracker before the May half-term. These templates are attached below to help evaluate if they are suitable for your school.
The parent report templates are designed to save teachers time by automatically populating with key information from Sonar Tracker, including pupil names, attainment data and targets for the subjects you select. Your report template can be downloaded for one child, a group, or the whole class.
Teachers can then add comments for each pupil in an individual Microsoft Word document, highlighting their pupils’ strengths and next steps.
When viewing the templates, anything in curly brackets will be entered automatically (provided there is a data entry for that pupil and that type), meaning that most teachers will only need to add a grade for the pupils’ attitude to learning along with comments.
What options do we have to personalise these reports for our school?
As part of the setup process for your school, you will be able to define how the templates will look. You can choose:
- Which phase - Primary or EYFS?
- Which report type - Mid Year, End of Year, Statutory?
- Which report style - Grid, Key Subject Detail, Full Subject Detail?
- Which attainment grade method? (Choose from 2 (for EYFS only), 3 or 4 grades.)
- Which attainment labels? (For example, WTS, EXS, GDS. You can define your labels or use the defaults.)
- Which attitude to learning label? (For example, Effort, Progress, or Behaviour.)
- Which subjects? In addition to the core subjects, do you use other subjects to report to parents?
Can I add targets from Sonar Tracker?
Yes. If you record formative assessment using Sonar Tracker, up to two objectives a pupil has yet to achieve for each subject (currently showing as yellow or red for that pupil) will be automatically included in the report. These can be amended or edited in Word if you want to make any changes.
Can I add the comments in Sonar Tracker?
No. Sonar Tracker doesn't have a section for adding comments, but we are looking for feedback to improve parent reporting for 2024/2025.
Where will my reports be saved?
A report will be saved in a Word file for each pupil, enabling you to edit your reports in Word on a pupil-by-pupil basis.
What if the assessment of a pupil changes?
Although the reports are not saved in Sonar, if a pupil’s attainment changes you can run a single report which will update the attainment data. You will need to copy the comments you previously made into the new version. We recommend running your class parent reports once your final grades have been entered.
Report Notes
A completed sample report is available to view below, along with examples of some of the layout options. These will vary depending on the choices made by you in the setup. When you view the completed sample report, any text highlighted in green is automatically generated when you download the reports from Sonar Tracker. The areas that are highlighted in yellow are completed by the teacher using Word.
